Re: 21 inch tyres

I searched for many years for these and they are almost impossible to find. I have 1 spare pair of Dunlop universal in the correct size, stored in the dark = no cracking on sidewall, 1 new 1 barely used, they are good for display but have gone hard through ageing, open to offers ?. graham "uk"

Re: bedding in rings using hard chrome barrels

Obviously Rumi original spec rings would be best. I have also used pattern hepolite/Hepworth rings in chrome cylinders with success in the past. The running in time I used was about 100 miles at no more than half throttle, and a further 200 or so miles before using full throttle for anything other t...

Re: bedding in rings using hard chrome barrels

My last words on this subject --- you should be aware that cast iron comes in various grades/hardness, are you sure you have rings intended to be used in chrome bores ?

Re: 10 inch wheels wanted.

honed nikasil with chromed rings is fine, smooth chrome bore with chrome plated or hard rings will lead to the problems you are having.

Re: 10 inch wheels wanted.

Montesa,s point regarding piston rings came up in a conversation I had last week with someone who knows about such things. I remember before nikasil/ceramic was readily available I had some cylinders modified to run on Yamaha pistons, the cylinders where re-chromed but the chrome finish on the top r...

Re: 10 inch wheels wanted.

I know a lot has been said about the advantages of plated chrome/nikasil over steel linered or cast iron cylinders, but I have too date "touching wood" never seized a standard rumi whatever the cylinder type, and I use my rumi,s hard, but hard chrome is just that = hard and too smooth to retain oil....

Re: 10 inch wheels wanted.

I know it might sound drastic to remove the chrome from your cylinders, but if you cannot get your rumi to work i would be tempted to have the chrome removed , and have the cylinders either fitted with steel liners or re-coated with nikasil/cyramic, this would allow for a honed finish to the bore he...

Re: Bol D'Or - New Project

Hi Hugo, what I mean is that the input and output gear shafts rely on the end plates and the large ring to locate the bearing on the ignition end, without the end plates in position the gearshafts rely on the grip of the casing halves to stop the shafts from moving towards the ignition side, ideally...

Re: Bol D'Or - New Project

Hi Hugo, I have not had oil leak from that position on any of my engines, the usual places if not from the 3 ignition side plates you have sltesdy looked at are 1 the clutch arm, 2 the gear change lever, 3 the kickstart lever, 4 the oil level screw. Also be carefully not to use gaskets that are very...
