lucky that the bolt fell out and did not flap about on the end of the strap against your lovely blue paintwork !

Re: Torque cylinder head nuts

I torque the same as I would a Lambretta (similar length 8mm studs) 18 lbs-ft 2.5kg-m 24-nm, this may not be the official figure? but it works for me. Graham

Re: Formichino carb

I would be tempted to try a standard 15mm carb (Dellorto UA15S) on the "rebuilt" Formichino before I changed anything. If the ignition is ok and the engine is in good order, it should start from the kickstarter or low speed push, and run smoothly. I am assuming Eddie,s rebuild included a crank rebui...

Of yeah!, I wouldn't run your engine until you have checked that the crank seals have not gone hard with age = buggered crankshaft.

Re: Formichino carb

Unfortunately there are no suitable "to my knowledge" modern carbs that run at the same angle as the Formichino inlet manifold. You would need to use a Scoiattolo or Turismo motorcycle manifold with something like a 17.5 PHBL Dellorto = easier starting/better performance/better fuel economy once cor...

Re: Petrol/Oil ratios

I have been looking into this a bit recently. Comments from many owners of D and LD Lambretta,s "caged big end / bushed little end" have been running their machines for many years and thousands of miles on between 4% = 25-1 and 3% = 33-1, using mostly semi and fully synthetic. I am not sure of the r...

Re: Tony Mooring

Very sad to hear this. When I got my first Rumi Tony was my first contact for parts and advice. Many hours where spent drinking tea and chatting about the worlds greatest scooter at his cottage in Gaddesden. I lost contact with Tony a bit over recent years but will remember him most fondly for his t...

Re: Iron barrels

it is quite possible that your 1960 tipo-sport came with steel cylinders, it is also possible that your scooter started life as a formichino and received a tipo upgrade during its life ?, the cylinders used for both of the above are often the style used in bicarburatore motorcycles with all the fins...

Re: Petrol/Oil ratios

I had a chat today with a respected uk rumi owner/restorer/crankshaft builder, who said I should mention that my rumi,s all run caged roller big and little end conrods, and that owners still running with old fashioned uncaged big/ bushed little end type conrods may be better off with a 25/1 two stro...

Re: Petrol/Oil ratios

oh yeah!. if you do decide to use your halfords oil it will be fine but I would mix it at 25/1, whatever you do don,t venture out onto todays public roads at 16/1 = you will be chassed down by mobs of sandal wearing unwashed vegans on push bikes  . you will then need to flush the tank clear o...

Re: Petrol/Oil ratios

I have used exol ultima fully synthetic at 33/1 in everything two stroke I own = rumi,s / maicolett,s / velocette viceroy,s / and all my two stroke work tools for the last 5 years without any issues. it can be purchased through ebay, if you buy a big tub it is delivered for a price cheaper than most...

Re: Formichino rear bulb sizes.

you will find a 21watt bulb will be too much for the standard rumi electrics and is likely to reduce the power of the headlight dramatically , I use modern 12volt electrics on my rumi,s with 35/35 watt headlight and led rear and brake lights. with your standard 6volt rumi stator you are going to be ...

Re: Formichino rear bulb sizes.

rumi scooters came without brake lights just a rear light, the rear light backplate is generic to many lightweight Italian motorcycles and can also be found as the top part of some light backplate/number plate panels, they usually come with either 2 or 3 bulb holders, it is wise to fit a brake light...

I was hoping to complete it for the French rally i...

all of my early rumi,s have cev light switches, some of my later ones have aprillia light switches, but is there a definitive date when the aprillia ones where phased in?.
