Re: Wheels
As you see from the original brochure, there were only 6 holes in the 10" wheels. 3 for holding the wheel sides together and 3 for holding complete wheel to hub. This was how my one was which I bought new in 1960. However after riding for a couple of months the holes which held sides together starte...

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore
Hello Hugo, My father was a sheet metal worker and welder but he passed away 50 years ago. He used to say to me 'welding is not an art, it is a disese and anyone can catch it'. The more you do the better you are at it. Maybe you could take a leisure course at a local college. My welding was terrible...

Re: N.U.T. 680cc 'V'twin.
Well it was a few years ago. The guy I borrowed it from said it had 'rubbing noises' at the front and back and they were called brakes. Like riding a 'five bar gate' with wheels on.

Re: Regolaritá Sei Giorni
Claudio, The reason for the 'twin' tank maybe because of balance. With a full single tank of fuel 'slopping about' it would be difficult to balance through some of the sections.

Re: its who you know
Well Arthur, it appears I am a few years older than you. I was born before the second world war and was evacuated from London with my parents and sisters when we had fire bombs landing in the back garden. I can even remember seeing flying bombs (V!'s) coming over. I have also been involved with the ...

Re: its who you know
You may or may not know, but I am the founder and president of The Moto Rumi Club U.K. I think you should get your facts right before you start spouting off about 'IT'S WHO YOU KNOW'. I cannot understand how you can be talking about what has been discussed at the AGM when you are not a member of the...

Re: British model flying championship
Many years ago I borrowed a control line GOAT. Well it wasn't a control line, more of a control chain. It was to clear the brambles and nettles at the bottom of the garden. I had to drive a stake into the garden and fix a chain to it, at the other end of the chain I had to attach the goat by it's col...

Re: Hugo's loss of spark.
Hugo, It would appear that the 'no firing' on right cylinder must have been faulty plug. Plugs can foul up at any time. I always ride with spare plugs. In the old days plugs used to 'whisker up' but these days the plugs are manufactured to a better degree and it's not often you get trouble. Take you...

Re: Hugo's loss of spark.
Hello Hugo, Yes, that makes sense O.K. If you could borrow some letter punches that would be good to mark the hub with an A and O. You will have to check your points gap and electrical connections. Check that the HT lead is making good contact in the coil because the coils are vertical and a lead ma...

Re: Hugo's loss of spark.
Hi Lars, But it is something to keep in mind for Hugo if he ever separates the two. That was the object of the exercise, to separate the two in order to adjust the contact breaker points to their correct positions without all the fumbling through the flywheel slots. I assume that's what Hugo has don...

Hugo's loss of spark.
UJH, Just wondering about the modification you made to Hugo's flywheel. Does it matter where the cam is according to the magnets around flywheel?? Maybe this could be the problem with Hugo's loss of spark on the right cylinder if the flywheel outer has been re-arranged on re-assembly. (if you know w...

Re: Here is my Rumi Juniors
Hello Ian, Yes ,I think that one was probably a private import. Jim Bound had his Montessa shop in Watford and I can recall 'dribbling' over the Montessa 'Brio's' in the shop window. I also recall the 110 had a peculiar wheel attachment at the bottom of the front forks.

Re: Here is my Rumi Juniors
Hi Claudio, To my knowledge the earlier 'junior' was never imported to the U.K. and neither was the sports and bicarburettor. As far as I know the only motorcycle version of Rumi imported by the concessionaires was the latest 'junior gentleman'. Even the scoiattolo was only imported by individuals n...

Re: A dedicated Junior/Junior Gentleman engine?
I do not think these lugs were 'cut off' by anybody. The crankcase were cast with out the lugs. Also bear in mind the 'junior gentleman' was only in production for about three years (from 1959-62). In 1962 Rumi went into liquidation and I have a letter to prove that fact.

Re: A dedicated Junior/Junior Gentleman engine?
I think you will find that all of the 'plunger' type suspension bikes all had the bottom lugs (ears as you call them) for the rear brake pivot shaft. When the later 'junior gent' type machines were introduced with swinging arm suspension the rear brake was operated via a crossover cable. Hugo, for y...

Re: A dedicated Junior/Junior Gentleman engine?
Sorry Arthur you are wrong. I have an early supersport and the centre stand system is the same as Hugo's bicarburettor. It is pivoted on an assembly which is bolted to the frame and clamped round the silencers. I too have had a couple of 'juniors' and they had stand brackets welded to the original f...

Re: A dedicated Junior/Junior Gentleman engine?
Hello Ian, The reason for changing the wheel rims from steel to alloy was because of the diameter. It was nigh impossible to find 19inch racing tyres but 18 were quite common. Most Rumi "Juniors" in the U.K. were converted and raced. One of the problems racers had in the 1950/60's was you could not ...
