Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

Hugo, It would be better to build up rather than take away. Otherwise if you take too much away it will put too much pressure on bearings and oil seals. Arthur, Why are you mentioning imperial measurements? (only used by 'old brits'). all of the continent uses metric measurements. Are you just tryin...

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

Oh dear Ian, You must have misread my comments. I was referring to the picture that Hugo had on this subject. I was referring to the original type rod shown. I have no experience with 'caged needle roller' rods as supplied by Rex Caunt or Rumi Club France. And I think I can live without your sarcasm.

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

I can remember many years ago one of our members decided to send his crankshaft to a very wellknown crank engineers to get new bearings and seals fitted. They contacted him and told him they could not supply the seals. He suggested they contact me and I supplied the seals to them. When eventually, a...

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

Hugo, It is true that the con-rod is turned upside down, but as I understood, this is not a big problem, because it get properly lubricated anyway. Whoever told you this is wrong!!! The rod was designed by the manufacturers with this slot to lubricate the bearing. There is an identical slot at the s...

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

One other point I notice, if this is the bottom half of crankcase, is that the con-rod is upside down. There should be a lubrication groove showing on the top of the con-rod.

Re: My "new" old Bicarburatore

Hugo, If you look closely at your pic of crankshaft and the centre seal carriers, it looks like the left hand seal carrier has been turning and worn thinner than the right one. Also the locating groove (for the pin at the bottom of the crankcase) on the left one is not in it's right position. This m...

Re: Front sprocket for Moto Rumi

Arthur, That was not the question! Anything can be re fabricated! I think Hugo was asking if any stock sprockets fitted to other machines would fit the Rumi. I do not know of any and I have been involved with Rumi's since 1960. The earlier machines also had a taper fit sprocket as opposed to the spl...

Re: lack of power

Hello David, this is just a thought but a mistake made by many because of the horizontal cylinders. Have you checked to make sure the copper ring gaskets have not 'fallen down' when assembling the cylinder heads? Therefore the 'heads' leaking.

Hi Christopher, All of the Rumi scooters had a thread on the petrol tank spout.
You might like to contact Paul on motorumiclub@tesco.net. He made some replicas in resin and they were very good, he might have one left for sale.

Re: Surprised and wondering about Moto Rumi bolts

Hello Jacsimo, You evidently don't own a Vincent or know someone with one! You will find that most Vincent owners replaced all of their nuts and bolts with stainless where possible. A similarity between Vincent and the Rumi scooter is the monacoque construction where the engine castings form part of...

Yes Lasse, they were fitted as standard to the UK Bol'D'Or. The French Bol'D'Or scooter was evidently the same spec. as the UK Tipo Sport with single 22mm carburettor fitted.

Puch and DKW and I believe TWN all built 'twin cylinders' but with a split con-rod and firing as a 'single'.

Re: Plastic vs Metal fuel cap at Moto Rumi Formichino

The metal fuel cap on the motorcycles was a different type to the one fitted to the scooters. The Bol'd'Or scooter sold in U.K. was fitted with the metal cap as shown on the parts list. Some Tipo Sports were sold with the metal cap (as my one I bought new in 1960). The Formichino's were normally sol...
