In Switzerland with Rudolf assembling a Formichino

Post by hugomez » Tue Aug 18, 2020 7:15 pm

Hi All,

Yesterday night I arrived in Switzerland visiting Rudolf and Teresa. As a special task, Rudolf asked me to help him assembling a Formichino.

Here some photos of "Day 01":

Thank you Montesa. Pity you didn't mentioned earlier, I made some black and some white a few years ago but I already gave all of them. If I do another batch I will send you one :)

DAY 03 progress:

Here the photos of the progress we managed to do today. We are close to finishing it, however Rudolf decided to take me to spend part of the day riding around the beautiful Swiss mountains and eating in a famous motorcycle meeting point.

I was so fortunate to ride one of his amazingly restored Rumi Bicarburatore (1954) :D
Rudolf was riding his amazing Moto Guzzi Airone Sport (1955)

Hi Hugo,

Looks great. Nice motorcycle gathering and beautiful scenery!

The Formichino also seems to be coming together quickly and looking very good. The two of you work together very well - with or without aquavit, it seems!

Rudolf, fantastic restorations! Both bikes look spectacularly beautiful.

Hi Lars,

The place is beautiful and you should see Rudolf collection, it is remarkable.

Today, Day 04, we did some progress, a lot of small little details, painting small things, polishing small parts, drilling, adjusting, etc, but the bigger step we did today was the two paella we made following with several different types of liquors (grappa and so on).

Probably tomorrow we will be able to get the first ride test (if we don't get distracted)

Day 05:

The Formichino IS FINISHED!!!!

Unfortunately the body of the scooter has some holes in places that it shouldn't, Rudolf got the scooter already painted from the owner to finish it, so fixing those holes in that moment was not possible anymore. Even do, the final result is fantastic, it has been very fun working with Rudolf in this project, learning so much in every step of the process.

Here some photos of this little beauty.

Looks fantastic. Congratulations to both of you - and of course to the lucky owner!

Those early Formichinos with the one-piece rear body look particularly clean and nice.
This one is a beauty.

Thank you Lars!!!

I agree with you that the early Formichino looks really nice and cleaner that later model.

The owner I am sure will be very pleased with this one.

The footrest for the passenger was an accessory, not something original from factory.

Hello Rudolf, glad it finished the project off, only had the one for my bike, but went to my friends foundry and he made some patterns from il and is going to cast me a couple in aluminium, they shut for 5 weeks because of cover but opened again on Monday so will cast some next week, i will let you know how they work out, next is some twin carb manifolds for my junior and forma and 4 cylinder engine i am building.
