Project restoration Formichino

Post by pess32 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 12:41 pm

hi all,

I am going to begin the restoration of my formichino 1957. I have a lot of work and need some advice from "pro-rumi".

Is somebody had a photo of regulator tension of formichino? Is it the mark CEV?

A formichino 1957 had a internal glass for front ligt CEV 105? With chromed rim or not?

Thanks for you help.

Seb

Hi Seb,

My 1958 Formichino standard has the "turning" headlight and yes, it has the 105 CEV glass. It has NOT the chromed RIM on it. However my Bol D'Or (1961) that do not have the "turning" headlight, has the chromed rim.

About the regulator tension, the one at this first photo I think is the original, that is the one I have in my Bol D'Or. I can not tell you the brand, I do not know.

PLEASE if anything I have said here is not correct, I would appreciate if somebody correct me.

Thanks ;)

hi,

I saw there is 2 mount of head light ass.

One with CEV 105 glass with rim bored without front glass like this photo

The second with the large front glass of formichino.

The first is an original rumi mount?

Thanks
Seb

Hi Seb,

Both are original for Rumi Formichino.

"First type" with the big glass (without the chromed rim) and with the interior light that turn at the same time as the handlebar.

"Second type" with the fix light (do not turn with the handlebar). This has the chromed rim as well, plus the plastic red part that you can see at the photo that you post of my Bol D'Or.

I can remember right now the year that Rumi stop the "first type" and introduce the "second type".

Sometime ago Graham Fisher (Grease Fingers) mentioned the exact years in the forum, however I can not find it right now.

Greets,
Hugo

Hi,

Thanks Hugo. I have the large glass with the turning system head light. The first glass is smooth. I supposed it is normal because there is the second glass.

Have you got a photo of turning system light, I don't understand the functioning.

Regards
Seb

Hi Seb,

Not sure what you mean when you say that the first glass is smooth. Both of them should be made of "glass" and with a "pattern" on it. In my case, my Formichino front one (the big one) is made in plastic, but that is a replica, not original. The original glass is very difficult to find, that is way many scooters mount plastic replicas.

Here you can see both of them as they should be.

Regarding your request of a photo of the "turning light system", unfortunately I do not have a photo right now, but I hope these images can help you to clarify a little bit your doubt. Maybe another member have the parts out of the scooter body and can take a photo for you if the images below are not enough.

In this first image you can see the parts. The cable number 31 / 32 is connected to the part number 8 of the last image. When you move the handlebar, the headlight turn accordingly.

Hi, the glass in the turning light system hasn't a pattern as pess32 said, it's smooth. The glass with the pattern, it's for the fix light system.

Hi Claudio, thanks for the clarification!!!!, yes, you are absolutely right. For some reason I confused the CEV 105 of the latest model of Formichino, with the interior "flat" glass of the "turning headlight type" Formichino.

I just check and my Standard Formi has also the interior glass flat.

:D ;)

Hi Seb,

This part seem to be number 26.

Are you asking if you need to mount it?

I do not remember if I had that part when I dismantled the rear suspension of the Bol D'Or. I just check but unfortunately among the photos I took of the parts during the process I do not see it. I did not take many photos of the rear suspension when was dismantled. So I am not been very helpful now. Hopefully somebody else can clarify your doubt with more details.

Hello Rumisti
If you look at Hugo's diagram, behind part 26, a line drawing depicts bottom of toolbox which applies to 55 model.
I have this part amongst my spares and wondered in the past what it was for, however I have built several post 55 Formichino and have never fitted such a part.
Finest regards
Michael

Suspension part 26

Post by greasy-fingers » Wed Jun 14, 2017 1:24 pm

Part 26 is a threaded brass bush that screws into the toolbox castings of 1954 and 1955 Formichino,s it supports part 20 which slides through it. You do not need it on 1957 or later Formichino,s,. Mick if you have a spare I would be interested in it as I have a few worn ones.

hello,

I think i have found my problem of rotating group head light. I haven't got the plate support of regulation light like these in the photo

I presume the cable was fixing on this plate.

Is somebody had a photo of this plate but the other face please?

thanks

Hi Seb

I am confused about what you are asking. If your requirement is for the 'headlight swiverling assembly' I can help i.e. item 18,22,23,24.

Item 32 connects to the top of this assembly and is driven by a connection on the front fork. The diagram says it all. The voltage regulator has nothing to do with it at all.

Does this help?
